Due to numerous scheduling conflicts the date of this battle is being changed to the third weekend of June 16-17th.
We are in planning stages now. Anyone wishing to help out with planning or prep of the site can contact me. Should be one of the best yet with such a large property to work with for a change.

39 Bn CMF will attend the PTO battle representing the 33rd Naval Construction Battalion (SeaBees). We will also operate (simulated) landing craft for Saturday's beach landing.
If interested in the USN impression or coordinating the onsite construction (and tear down) of Higgins boats and LVTs, please contact me.

To be period correct and allow the US Army troops to participate, we would be 15 days into the conflict. How does a landing craft come into play unless you are off loading supplies? The CB's would be building stuff, not fighting. I guess if it were D-Day plus 15, they would be landing the Army.

39th Battalion, Commonwealth Milita Force (CMF) is the CHG's Australian unit. As there were no Australians at Peleliu, we will attend as 33rd Naval Construction Battalion, a US Navy SeaBee unit. How does a landing craft come into play unless you are off loading supplies? Separate from our SeaBee impression, we will act as USN/USCG Higgins boat and USMC LVT crew. We will simulate landing craft operations during the opening engagement, much as was done last year. This will control the flow of Marines (and replacements) into the battle and allow the IJA the opportunity to interrupt the same. The CB's would be building stuff, not fighting. I guess if it were D-Day plus 15, they would be landing the Army. Detachments of the 33rd and 77th Naval Construction Battalions (SeaBees) were on the beach at Peleliu on D-Day, offloading supplies, clearing obstacles, acting as improvised stretcher bearers and operating the transfer point at the reef for supplies to and from Higgins boats and LVTs. We expect to fulfill exactly this role, and will not patrol inland or join any USMC attacks. Any direct fire engagements we find ourselves in will be in defense of the beachhead, should the IJA somehow turn back the Marines and counterattack. I can't speak for any Army units participating and will have to defer any questions in that regard to Tim and the 2nd Sendai. Also all the landing craft were marooned on the beaches of "Old Ozena" ;D Yes, the landing craft were abandoned on the beaches of old Ozena. We are constructing new landing craft. Cheers! Andrew

Yes, there will be a beach landing again this year. The Marine unit leader did contact me about staging this event as D+15 but never met with me to plan it out. Andrew contacted me about a beach landing and ran it thru the Sendai Command and planning committee and it was approved.
Still in early stages of planning but so far this is the only thing we have set now. In planning is a beach landing followed by the allies moving on to capture the airfield then beyond to clear out the defenders. This battle will utilize much more property than used before. Vehicles would be advantageous for the Allies for transport.

As Marines were the only force there for the first 15 days of the battle with the exception of the landing craft drivers, are we going to allow the Army to participate?

Honestly I am not a PTO unit leader nor do I set the planning for the battle. I have enough controlling what the Japanese do and cannot oversee the Allied side as well. As Dave from your unit is fond of pointing out, Senarios are only for setting a theme at battles and what happens there is not set. Rarely do all our units at our ETO battles actually conform to what was historically there. Authenticity on that level is very hard to achieve.
Of course we will allow Army but if they want they can opt out of the beach landings. The senario of Peleliu only sets how the battles of the day will be set up. Actually from the planning stand point at this time the days battle will reenact what happened at Peleliu over the entire course of the historical battle.

This is one of those paradoxes in WW2 Reenacting. Scenarios and their purpose. While most if not all event bare little simularity to their real event in space in time, they are the heart of every event.
The most important aspect of a scenario is it set the "theather of battle" and the countries which take part. After that everything fades.
Some events take the scenario seriously and strictly link the acceptable "impressions" to the real historical event. While others use the scenario as nothing more than a theme or atmosphere for the event, much the same was as a child's birthday party may have a theme.
The confusion is there is no one way things are done, and the various units take either a liberal viewpoint or a strict interpretation of whether their unit can attend or sure attend the event.

I'm not trying to cause problems. I am just asking questions to clarify if we were going to have a historically accurate event, or a "Cowboys and Indians" event that doesn't follow a correct timeline. Either way is fine with me.

I am very pleased to see units changing their impression to fit the scenario. This is something the whole club needs to be willing to do to be more authentic and flexible.
Regarding landing craft... I want to very politely suggest we forgo them. In the absense of a beach, as well as the ability to build something very authentic and full scale, it may just end up looking like a paintball event.
If you wanted to give the marines the feel of charging from the beach into Japanese guns, you could get the same effect by holding the marines in a ditch "on the beach" and sending them off at intervals toward the japanese guns.
Regarding how we would integrate marines, army, and navy (seabees), I don't know how viable this would be, but the allied commander could stagger unit entry into the fighting. This would also keep allies from overwhelming the Japanese force, depending on numbers.
Just an example, but maybe something like this? The Navy and Army units would have to sit the first part of the battle out for it to work:
-9am-Noon - US Marines attack, simulating D-day and d-day +1. -11am - Seabees join the fight to start work on the airfield (this happened on D+2 in real life) Afternoon - Army units arrive to help mop up (D+29)
Sunday would be a free for all.
Best Regards,
-Tim

We did a beach landing last year and it turned out to be much more sucessful than anyone thought it would turn out. Again, I do not set the senarios and I don't make the decisions of what to do at the battles. The decision was made and I just make it happen to the best of my ability.
At this time the first battle of the day will be a beach landing. Following that will be the battle where the airfield was taken and the last action of the day should be D+15 or it could be D+29 where the Japanese defenders were rooted out and the island secured.
This is our plan so far. If any unit like the 4th Marine and Australians/US Navy unit did, wishes to help with planning and contribute then I will turn that idea to the Sendai command and they will evaluate the possibility of incorporating it into the weekends battle plan. Frankly we still need an Allied co-sponsor who will oversee the admin part of the Allied line up and dues collection.
My job is to make it happen.

The "4th Marines" is not a scantioned or recongnzied CHG unit. They were at one time, but have long been delisted. While they do Living History events they are not recongnized by any of the offical Parent Co-Op organizations.
The 101st Airborne has a 2nd Impression - 1st Marine group who has attended numerous CHG PTO events over the last five years.

The Marine Unit who organized the landing craft deal last year was the 1st Marine Division. We are sanctioned by the RPS. We have not tryed to get recognized by the CHG yet. Basically 99% of our guys are 101 AB guys. The 1st Marine Division unit is a second impression unit only. We plan on trying to become an offically recognized second impression CHG unit.

Will the Marines disembarking from the LCVPs or LVTs being wearing full packs? Because last time, they weren't. I mean, if you want to make it look right.

The Marine group I belong to, wll not be disembarking from Landing craft as we would have been at the island for 15 days before the Army arrived.
