Event info has just been updated. We are still pending more details, but we'll update the site with more info as they release.
This year, we are doing Burma. It's a departure from our usual scenario, but a theater that is often overlooked in history and should be easy for our club to accommodate with good attendance.

There were no US Marines in Burma. Are we still allowed to attend as USMC?

No, this would be PTO Army or British Commonwealth.

Ok. No problem. I'll just cross this event off the schedule for my unit. Thanks.

First time ever unit authenticity was enforced.

First time ever unit authenticity was enforced. I wouldn't say it's the first time unit authenticity was enforced, unless you're looking at the world from only what applies to you and your unit, and you have a chip on your shoulder. Then, yeah, I guess this could come as a shock.

Dual front. Tanks... Yeah. Lots of ETO authenticity there...
Whatever, it's your farb fest each time.
Did you remember that the Japs were outnumbered and LOST the war?
Seems you guys need to brush up a bit.

Then, yeah, I guess this could come as a shock. I'm thinking more about the "Fire" battle which was supposed to be Peleliu...we saw brits and army rangers, neither of which were there. There are issues with this, but we can work on them for the future events.

Guys, Arguing about it in these forums is not going to solve anything. Authenticity is a good thing. We just need to make sure all of us are held to the same high standards for each and every event. Also, make sure you pay your CHG dues or you have no room for complaining. A member has rights. A non-member is an outsider who just squawks and complains about something that is not in his or her control. If you have complaints, make sure your representative is at the CHG meetings to stand up for your unit's rights. A decent discussion doesn't have to be petty or an argument. It can be an exchange of decent ideas that all parties can come together on. That is all I have to say.

It's commendable that a standard was set for this event and I hope from here on out the same standard will be set for each event. Past is the past, to say it never happened is wrong, but we can move ahead and be better for it. Ultimately it's up to each unit to take the high road and comply with the scenario. It's up to the CHG leadership to intervene if they don't. I made reference to the last PTO event above and at the time I really didn't care, but we do need this standard and do what we can to avoid double standards. I would rather walk on hot coals than lead a reenacting club, I'm sure it's akin to herding cats.
Personally, I like dual front events..it lets everyone play. I don't think it's possible to have an event where every existing unit in the CHG/RPS was present for the specific campaign. For the most part, I think a good balance is kept. The Marines aren't going anywhere, see you at the next one !

CHG doesn't recognize RPS.

I appreciate your comment, Bullrider. It's not an easy job and the point of authenticity will be argued to the end of time. What you might want greatly differs from what another person may want. If both are paying members of the club, who is more right?
I've tried to steer authenticity to scenario in a way that would hopefully find middle ground between the hardline approach and the casual reenactor approach. Setting standards restricts attendance but loosening them creates something so unauthentic, we might as well do Vietnam and Civil War in the same battle. This will always be a process and sometimes we get it right, other times we miss the mark. The point is, we try and we hopefully have a good time while we're at it all the while getting better as we go along.

Only if complaints/concerns are actually listened to... Complaints and concerns are ALWAYS listened to, doc101, even if a person does nothing but complain. I try and give everyone a fair ear, but I always encourage people to use their "chain of command" before coming to me for questions/answers.

So, since this was a circa 1945 scenario, the uniform of the day for USA is M42 and M43 HBT fatigues right?

Yes, Juan, basically. The American Authenticity Officer and I are looking at the possibilities to see what our members could wear. Not everyone is familiar with this campaign but I think there is good opportunity here to try something different but without forcing members to run out and buy new uniforms and gear.

Authenticity Guidelines for American and British/Commonwealth units have been posted on the Event Page: www.chgww2.net/pto. Japanese attendees should follow direct guidance from the hosting unit, 2nd Sendai, and are required to make contact with them if they are not already members of that unit.
