The 45th Field Hosptial does come out for the Desert Battles on a regular basis. I've heard that some of the women "may be" coming out as Australian Nursing Unit. Also some new ladies to reenacting "may be" coming out as Italian Nurses. And of course the DRK will be there as well. One thing about all the Nursing units, they are not "dumping grounds" for wives and girlfriends of their male reenactor counterparts. They want serious women, interested in persuing the hobby. But if your interesting in finding out more information I suggest you email Laura Lowes. Her email address on thier website www.45thfieldhospital.moonfruit.com/

Completely understand and I totally apologize if thats how it came across, I'm not trying to dump or anything like that in any way. I'm new to this period of reenacting and my wife is brand new to the idea of reenacting. She has an interest and desire to learn more about ww2 and the period surrounding it. Unfortunately though I realized at the last minute I may in fact be able to make it to this event and she wanted to come check it out with me, see what reenacting is for her self and decide if this is indeed something she wants to pursue so I've been helping her try to get things together so that she may come. Thank you for your response and the information, I appreciate it.

No need to apologized you never asked that question. It was just a great opportunity to provide information on the nature of the German Nursing Unit and the American Field Hospital Unit. To let everyone who reads these boards the nature of the CHG Medical units. If your wife is interesting in checking things out, I would suggest that she make the inital contacts with the 45th Field Hospital. They will let her, know what the requirements are for the unit.

I think the bigger concern amongst the ladies is that it's been too often that male reenactors would dump off their girlfriends or wives unto their field hospitals and expect them (the female members) to dress them up and look after them, even when the girlfriend or wife has no interest in WWII nor the hobby. Sometimes, this would occur on the day of the event with no notice.
If your lady (girlfriend or wife) is sincerely interested in learning about the history, then it's less of an issue and I'm sure she would be welcome in either unit. But, as the Webmaster noted, it would be best to contact the representatives of the unit she'd be interested in dressing out as (it gets quite expensive and confusing if you try to do both) before bringing her out to an event, mainly to double check to see if they are even coming out.

Just a thought maybe IF the Hospitl units are at the Chino event in just a few weeks it would give interested parties the chance to see and talk with various reenactors at a more relaxed setting...Just a thought and not to try to jump in on another units membership... I have told various people at my workplace who seem interested Chino is a good chance to see the type of reenacting and talk first hand with members of Herr, SS Luftwaffe and of course the Allies...just a thought.

Brian...Chino is THE place to bring out potential recruits. You have two days to take your time and speak with all the attending units. Encourage everyone you can to attend. CHG usually has a very good representation of all the units of the club.

I recently returned back to CHG, after an absence of around five years. Anyway, I was thinking of rejoining a medical unit and found read that there may be an Australian group made up of some of the girls from the 45th. So I was wondering what has become of the idea? Also, I tried to enter the 45th's website (www.45fieldhospital.moonfruit.com/) and found that this one is dead as a doornail.
