Two people on the Combat! Fans Yahoo group went on one of the Collings Foundation adventures last week! In addition to the Bomber Crew Trainging Adventure they have other options which are cheaper, i.e. straight flights www.collingsfoundation.org/cf_flightexperiences.htmBomber Crew - Fantasy CampDodger here ...
May brings Bomber Week here in Southern California and Green Recruit and I were able to put in our annual flight time with the Collings Foundation bombers. We scheduled three flight with the restored WWII bombers and the weather was excellent, though this morning it is raining.
Teri and I had an excellent flight on Wednesday in the B-17. The flight lasted well over 30 minutes and was highlighted when the B-24 came up behind us and started to rock its wings. Everyone crowded by the open radio room hatch to view the rare sight to the other bomber in flight. We flew between downtown LA and the Hollywood sign and then over the south side of Franklin Canyon(Where Combat was filmed).
Two Fridays ago, we drove two hours to Ramona (near San Diego) where I had another good flight to Santa Ana and John Wayne airport. This time I flew in the B-24 and the route was along the coast from Oceanside to Santa Ana. But the capping flight was on Friday the 13th, when I invited my neighbor along for a ride in the B-17 from Camarillo to Burbank. It was his first time in a WWII bomber and he is still grinning from the experience. We also were treated when the Collings P-51 Mustang flew along with us for a few minutes. A really wonderful experience to be in a vintage bomber and have another vintage aircraft flying alongside.
This morning Green Recruit and I will be exercising our sea legs as we are taking a short furlough on a cruise up the West Coast from San Diego to Vancouver BC. I need a few days rest after our 12 O'clock High week.
Dodger out ...Don't forget to check out some of the pictures on that link. Here is just two of them.

Here is a nice short film, Gary Sinise surprising his Uncle Jack with a flight on a B-17. Which brings back memories for his uncle from WWII

That's an awsome video. Many of our students are flying for fathers or grandfathers who served.
