Hello all, I was looking to join the 2nd Armored. I have sent an email to the unit leader like it says on the website but I haven't heard back from him yet. Has this info changed or is there another way to look into joining.

The contact on the 2nd Armored Website is Ron Glaeseman. In order to protect against spam the email address is listed as
glaeseman // sbcglobal.net
you need to email him at glaeseman@sbcglobal.net

Webmaster, I did that. I had emailed Ron on Sunday. I was just wondering if it normally took him a couple of days to respond.
Then your information to admin@chgww2.net and I'll make sure Ron get's it. It maybe that your email got filtered by his email account. Either way we'll put you in contact.
thanks

I have a question, as my primary impression is an aircraft mechanic does 2nd armoured have observation planes?

I guess I won't get an answer, My question is we portray AAF ground crew and wanted to see about doing rear area mechanics for the tanks. Thanks.

Did you try making contact with our 2nd Armored members directly? They might have missed this post since in May two years ago and isn't really related to the original post.
I want to say there were some L-4s attached to the unit. But, I don't know if they were indigenous to the division or if they were attached semi-permanently (much like the 702nd Tank Destroyer Battalion) throughout the war. I have to look it up when I get the chance.

Ok, so what I've got is that 2nd Armored did have L-4 Grasshoppers for artillery spotting, and attached only to the Field Artillery Regiments. 1943 T/O&E says two per Battalion attached to the HQ. 2nd Armored had three Armored Field Artillery Battalions: the 92nd, the 14th, and the 78th. Based on the T/O&E, it could be assumed that each had two aircraft.
However, I did read a note that these more than often operated out of a common air field with other support aircraft from other units as opposed to be up close with their artillery batteries.

One could operate as a USAAF liason, or what's refered to as a "flightless bird". I am not sure where they would have been placed but I know their job was to direct air support from the ground.

The forward observers were flight rated officers so that leaves us out. There were "somewhat" forward airstrips for "L" birds and that's what we were looking at. All well nevermind, we may be busy as hell soon anyway. THANKS!!
