The next North Africa battle will be September 17 - 18 at the Stoddard Wells OHV area. We are still working with the BLM on the permit process, but moving forward with our plans.
The scenario will be Operation Supercharge II. This was British 8th Army's second attack on the Mareth Line in March 1943, after the failure of Operation Pugilist. To help replicate the Mareth Line, we will put the Axis in the northern campground (the rocky area) and the Allies to the south.
British 1st Airborne and the Long Range Desert Group are co-sponsoring the event. Hope to see everyone there.

A sector map showing key terrains, boundaries, access roads to both Allied and Axis locations would be welcomed. Also recommend to post a weather report 36, 24 hours before the battle. VR Mike

It will be hot. Current predictions for Barstow next weekend show highs around 93 and lows around 62.
Please take hydration seriously. We don't want any heat injuries out there.
There is a Google map on the "events" page. I plan to get out there about noon on Friday to put up signs.

IMPORTANT - PLEASE READ
The LRDG sent one of their guys out to the Stoddard OHV site for some reconnaissance.
There is much more vegetation out there than we normally have at the desert site, and it is now tinder-dry. There was a recent brush fire nearby in Hesperia. We will need to take fire safety very seriously.
The National Forest areas near Stoddard are posted for no camp fires. While the BLM has not posted their land with that kind of prohibition, we should seriously think about not having camp fires. Stoves and enclosed lamps should be fine.
If we do have campfires, make sure to use a fire ring (build a new one if you can't find an existing one) and clear brush from the surrounding area. The winds out there could easily carry sparks several yards. Camps should have fire extinguishers and shovels standing by.
Thank you, Derek Vlasek Unit Leader, 1st Airborne

If we do have campfires, make sure to use a fire ring (build a new one if you can't find an existing one) and clear brush from the surrounding area. BLM does not want us digging new fire pits, so please use the ones already established. Remember, bring wood that has already been denailed. Do not denail the wood onsite, do it prior to coming out. The BLM also stated they do not want us digging new foxholes. Those of you who have been out there know how difficult it is to dig in that ground, so this shouldn't be an issue, but do not add to the ones that may still be existing from previous events. They also requested to not bring and setup concertina wire. I couldn't get much clarification on that, but I assume it means our fake barbed wire that we used as barricades. If you do bring it, do not put it on the main trails and do not leave it behind. Haul all your trash, items, and whatever with you when you leave. Do your best to leave no trace of our existence behind.

Congrats to the Axis forces for completing two of the three objectives. The Axis held the Mareth Line. They also captured the Allied fuel dump and transported the fuel back to their defensive lines. However, they did not find the Allied intelligence documents.
Thank you to everyone who came out for the event. I hope you had as good a time as I did.
Best wishes, Derek Vlasek Unit Leader, 1st Airborne
