Ah, those crazy Frenchies! What will they think of next?
This was a recreation of a June 6th landing on Utah Beach on 6 June 2011. They did very well. If you look at the video and photo montage on their website, you will some some dedicated reenacting. They got on the boat at zero dark thirty, and spent 4 1/2 hours bobbing around in the ocean, only to jump chest deep into 60 degree F water. There were other reenactors on shore, along with the standard contingent of media. Their kit was authentic, except for the guy with the Van Gogh beard, and I did see one pair of non-period glasses in the video. What I did not know about the landing craft, was that there was a drop-down view slot in the ramp. Maybe I just never noticed it before.
