A miniseries that aired in Germany this month has enthralled viewers with its emotional portrayal of the role that average people played in WWII. Stripped of moral pretension, it also establishes a new, multigenerational milestone in the country's culture of remembrance.

The ZDF broadcast the documentation Another time, our mothers, our fathers - from the documentation, are portrayed in the five individuals who each have had a similar experience as the film's characters. Unlike the movie, the witnesses were not amicably together and knew each other not even likely. This leaves before the discussion of the friendship relations in the documentary, relieved during and after the war.
