Well, it's in Japanese and it seems to mark several engagements. It's possible this is a map in Japanese that came after the war showing different battles and such. Let me see if I can find more info for you.

Actually, yes. Sorry for not getting back right away. Things have been busy.
So, this appears to be a WWII Japanese map, from 1942. However, the ship wrecks in the Coral Sea area appear to have been added at a later date. The legend is title "Current as of September, 1942." But, it is difficult to tell if this is a real map FROM 1942 or if it is a map OF 1942as the photos weren't extremely clear.

When I acquired the map in my collection, I was told it was captured by US forces and in reality it's actually a tactical wall map used in the planning of various wartime activities. The entire document is printed on standard newsprint and glued together to form a larger document. The yellowing from the acid and the variance in the satiation of the ink suggests age. I will agree some of the shipwrecks have been added overtime.
